At Legacy Wellness Center, our journey began with a vision to create a safe and nurturing space for individuals and families to seek support and healing. Founded by our CEO, Mr. Layfield (Karter), dedicated to promoting mental health, wellness, and holistic well-being. Through Legacy Wellness Center, Karter is committed to providing vital mental health resources, reducing stigma, and offering comprehensive therapeutic services, workshops, and wellness activities for youth, adults, underserved populations, and specialized groups such as veterans and first responders.

Karter's educational journey reflects his deep passion for psychology and human services. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Human Services with a concentration in Education, a Master’s degree in Psychology from Walden University, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Psychology embedded with a Master’s in Philosophy. His extensive academic background provides a strong foundation for his mission to empower individuals and communities through mental health advocacy and support.

With over seven years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), Karter has held various leadership roles in the human services field. 

Karter’s dedication and leadership have earned him numerous awards and recognitions. He was a nominee for Duval County Public Schools Employee of the Year in 2022, received the School Turnaround Award from Duval County Public Schools, and was honored as Foster Parent of the Month twice in 2023. These accolades highlight his unwavering commitment to making a lasting impact in the lives of individuals and families.

As the driving force behind Legacy Wellness Center, Karter remains dedicated to creating an inclusive and compassionate space where individuals can access essential mental health resources, find healing, and embrace their fullest potential. His leadership and advocacy continue to inspire positive change in the community, ensuring that mental wellness is accessible to all.
